My Early Years

I was born in Sweden (my mother was a ballerina and father was an opera singer in Gothenburg) and I grew up in Australia. My childhood was spend following my mum around while she taught ballet and the rest of the time I was playing the piano or singing in well known choirs.
My most influential art teacher at high school was Michael Atchison who is well known as a newspaper cartoonist.
As a young child my mother called me Susie-Lotta as a nickname... so that's where my business name comes from.
Lived for 16 years in Sweden in total in the area with lots of textile designers and half of my family still lives there.

Studies & Qualifications
During my life I have studied design and art for around 11 years of my adult life. So in total I have been producing art, photography and designs for over 29 years.
The first art college I went to was the North Adelaide School of Art.
I loved it so much that I then completed a B.A. of Visual Arts majoring in photography, film and computer animation in the University of South Australia.
Whilst living in Sweden I studied many things including an Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design. This was followed Textile Design at the Textile University in Sweden.
Most recently, I studied a Diploma in Fashion Design.
Recent Years
I have a lot of experience working with photography... Including working in a fashion-advertising photo studio in England, teaching adults photography in Sweden, photography stores in Sweden and Australia. Also I have worked as a Freelance photographer in Sweden and Australia. (Student magazine, weddings, boat christening, events, dance, fashion etc).
I love photographing people (and stars at night when I get the chance).

Nowadays I live by the sea in Adelaide, Australia where I have my 2 business: Susie-Lotta Designs & Susie-Lotta Photography.
Susie-Lotta Designs produces textile designs for home-wares and fashion  as well as doing graphic design and illustrations!
The majority of my textiles are hand screen-printed and a few designs are printed digitally.
I create commissioned designs for South Australian Arts organisations.

My interests

Some of my greatest interests are photography, collecting Scandinavian design (glassware, ceramics, textiles) & exploring second-hand markets.
I love walking along the beach where I live collecting sea-glass. (I'm even an official whale spotter).
You can often find me dressed as a Viking age lady in Medieval Fairs where I can be seen doing historical crafts (eg tablet weaving).
My favourite art styles are
Art Nouveau, Scandinavian, Art & Crafts movement.
Whilst growing up in Australia, I was often dreaming about Sweden and my childhood home had prints of paintings on the walls by Carl Larsson, glassware from Kosta Boda, Orrefors etc.
Other artists I admire are John Bauer, Arthur Rackham, Ivan Ivarson, Elsa Beskow, John Waterhouse.
